This section will be focused on analysis of these effects for air and space systems as they work closely with their counterparts in the associated Radiation Effects Analysis & Laboratory (REAL) & Space & Nuclear Effects Simulation (SNES) Sections, driving program performance in this tightly-linked domain. These
three sections will collaborate and coordinate resources and support, developing a unified vision and executing a global strategy for growth, standardization and meeting program needs.
The Nuclear Weapon Effects (NWE) Section Manager is a " dual-hat" Engineering Manager, responsible for both section management (up to 20% of time) and existing program responsibilities (80% or more of time). Along with reporting into a program, the Section Manager is also a member of the Space Systems Sector Specialty Design & Analysis (SDA) Department. Leadership skills are required to manage and counsel team members and interns. The Section Manager shall be the functional leadership contact for the SDA Department and will support and implement activities supporting Radiation & Survivability Engineering initiatives, reporting directly to the SDA Department Manager.
The NWE manager should have experience in analyzing electronic component degradation under radiation environments and understand strategic threat environments. Both space and nuclear environmental threats would be examined by performing environment modeling, dose mapping, backssments of micrometeoroid, orbital debris, atomic oxygen and UV degradation implications, and use codes for environment & rate calculations, natural & man-made radiation transport, as well as nuclear EMP and mechanical responses.
Roles and responsibilities: •Perform resource planning and staffing to meet program demands. Become a magnet for Radiation and Survivability engineering talent utilizing career fairs, social networking and college hiring events •Promote team member development; including skills training, professional seminar sponsorship, and modernize learning material. Be their advocate for career advancement by promoting knowledge sharing and mentor / protégé relationships •Execute performance management, including employee goal setting, feedback solicitation, annual reviews, and compensation planning and issues resolution •Work in lock step with the section members and managers of the Radiation Effects Analysis & Laboratory (REAL) Section as well as the Space & Nuclear Effects Simulation (SNES) Section •Drive to a collective vision, organizational strategic plan and execution with a growth mindset •Establish and grow strategic relationships with Academia, Industry Partners as well as with Northrop Grumman Enterprise teams nationwide •Provide technical, operational, and functional leadership of the section while exemplifying the Northrop Grumman leadership characteristics •Set performance standards and expectations, promoting engagement and development of section members •Help resolve technical as well as operational issues •Coordinate functional responses to program reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, IDR, IRT, NAR/ICE, etc.
) •Resolve personnel matters such as work assignments, performance & salary review, and hiring of new section members •Hold ultimate responsibility for all NWE section activities Basic Qualifications: •Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 7+ years of engineering experience OR •Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline with 5+ years of engineering experience OR •Ph D in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline with 2+ years of engineering experience •Demonstrated management or leadership experience •Active Do D Top Secret clearance Preferred Qualifications •Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Nuclear Engineering or closely related technical discipline from an accredited institution •Experience with the following radiation tools: DEEP, NOVICE, AE9 AP9, CREME96, MCNP, CACHELLE, FASTRAD, OMERE, Testable Hardware Toolkit, etc.
•Experience with dose mapping, ray tracing and other space environment prediction tools for micrometeoroids, orbital debris, and atomic oxygen •A solid, foundational background in both natural radiation effects as well as nuclear hardness and survivability •Knowledge of the physics associated with radiation effects in semiconductor devices is a plus •Strong written and verbal communication skills of the English language is desired; Strong team building/partnership skills •Ability to create inclusive teams with engaged team members recommend •Ability to partner across organizations •Ability to communicate upwards, downwards and across organizational levels •Active Do D Top Secret clearance with active SCI access Northrop Grumman offers a competitive and robust benefits program.

Salary Range: $147,800 - $221,800 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
