As part of our Sustaining Research and Development team, this position’s primary responsibilities include leading a group of software and firmware R&D engineers in support of equipment used to perform various medical procedures spanning Boston Scientific’s Urology & Pelvic Health Portfolio (e.

g. laser consoles, visualization equipment, RF generators, etc. ). As a Principal R&D Software Engineer, you'll be guiding the strategy to integrate a newly-acquired Holmium Laser developer into Boston Scientific systems, with special

focus on Software development procedures, Software Test and Cybersecurity. Beyond this initial project, you will be developing and maintaining best-in-class capital systems, software and firmware as part of our comprehensive portfolio of solutions.

Core focus of this role involves developing, planning, leading and coordinating Cybersecurity, Software Test (automated and manual) and software/firmware components of our capital equipment products. Key responsibilities: Establish best-practices for medical device software development and recruitment within the growing business franchise. Support SW development team throughout the software development life cycle deliverables Support the organization with appropriate deliverables for the submissions of software applications Develop, lead and execute the Software testing strategy including a heavy automation focus. Develop/Oversee/Review/Execute software test plans, test procedures and execute software verification and validation tests Develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.

Monitors and troubleshoots performance and schedule issues. Lead software architecture, implementation, integration, testing, and documentation for complex, connected electronic medical equipment (“capital”) systems and systems-of-systems. Coordinate with all divisional capital equipment projects regarding Software development , Cybersecurity, Software Test Partner with the Global Cybersecurity Office to coordinate threat identification/remediation, product backssments and execute cybersecurity solutions for products. Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-divisional experts in a wide range of fields to solve complex engineering and business challenges.

Translate highly technical results into easily understood recommendations that will influence senior stakeholders. Lead, execute, and deploy cybersecurity solutions Coordinate walkthroughs and reviews; ensures conformance to standards and adherence to design controls. Managing third party designers, vendors, and contractors to deliver high quality engineering solutions at an accelerated pace. Mentor and develop more junior engineers What we’re looking for in you 7+ years software / firmware development in technical lead roles, preferably in medical devices or a regulated industry with a proven track record of deployment in commercial products.

B. S. in Computer Science or equivalent with appropriate experience (Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, etc. ). Masters preferred. Experience working within a quality system, IEC and ISO standards relevant to medical device software lifecycle and risk management (i. e. IEC 62304, FDA pre-market submissions). Track record of strong cross-functional collaboration, influence without authority, and project management enabling highly effective project teams.

Proven self-starter who runs towards critical issues, ambiguous requirements, or loosely defined challenges with a demonstrated ability to rally teams to achieve business results. Passion for understanding and solving problems for end users, with an ability to translate into software requirements, design, and test specifications. Passion for developing talent, mentoring, and building high-performance teams. Hands-on, embedded product software integration, verification and validation planning, test strategy development, design of test protocols, executing software/system testing.

Working knowledge of software security and data privacy best practices and risk management. Experience in algorithm development and deployment using hardware specific hardware platforms such as GPU-accelerated programming, FPGAs, or microcontrollers a plus. Multithreaded application development that includes testing and debugging C/C++ on Linux. Experience working within an Agile software development environment. Comfortable debugging complex integrated systems spanning hardware, embedded and application software in medical devices. Experience working with automated testing solutions Experience in Cybersecurity and its application to products Experience in leading software releases Experience in modern Source Code Management (SCM) tools such as git or Accu Rev.

Experience in Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) software practice in a regulated environment.
