Security team. The Indianapolis Zoo's Safety and Security team work diligently to provide a safe, secure environment for our guests, volunteers, employees, animals, and plants. On a year-round 24/7 basis, full-time Security Officers conduct internal and external patrols, investigate unusual or suspicious situations, conduct safety/ security inspections, maintain records and logs as assigned, and enforce Zoo procedures and regulations, along with any other tasks directed by management.
This position requires excellent verbal communication skills, as our Security Officers interact with Zoo employees, guests, and volunteers daily. Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission
to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. Past work experience in security, law enforcement, military or extensive customer service experience is strongly desired.
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position that requires the flexibility to work varying shifts and schedules. Open availability along with working weekends, evenings, and holidays are a requirement. Job Requirements: One (1) year of professional work experience in a related field preferred. Physical and mental abilities to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations. Must be at least 18 years of age. High School Diploma/G. E. D. required. Must possess a valid Indiana driver's license with
a driving record deemed insurable by the Zoo's insurer. Ability to successfully pass First Aid Training/Certification.
Must possess excellent interpersonal / communication skills. Fluency in the English language is required. Verbal skills in other languages a plus. Must have the ability to use and/ or learn Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. This position requires extensive stamina, an ideal candidate must be able to: Frequently move from one area to another while transporting items (up to 50 pounds) across Zoo grounds for various needs and the ability to position items (up to 100 pounds) short distances. Repeatedly position oneself to ascend/ descend ladders and steps.
Visual acuity is required. Ability to communicate, discern, and exchange information over a two-way radio is required.
