On Lok cares deeply about its social mission to serve older adults and LGBTQ older adults as a priority in our partnership with Openhouse. The new program, called Openhouse+On Lok Community Day Services, is targeted to open in Spring 2020 in the Openhouse Community Center at 75 Laguna Street in San Francisco.
The entire team in this start-up environment has the unique opportunity to turn organizational commitment of that social mission into social impact by: - Demonstrating a commitment to serving the LGBTQ elder community. - Promoting community members' empowerment and inclusion in the day-to-day center operations. - Exhibiting
an extensive understanding of intersectionality within the LGBTQ elder community. - Serving as a spokesperson for the program with external stakeholders, organizations, and community members.
- Educating the community about the center, building rapport and trust, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Adult Day Program Manager (ADPM), the Adult Day Program (ADP) Caregiver 1 provides personal care services to community members participating in the program. DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide personal care and escort assistance according to the individual needs and services plan. Activities can include but are
not limited to: assistance with grooming, dressing, toileting, bathing, eating, peri-care, and skin checks.
Report observed changes in the community member's condition to the program team. Demonstrate safe practices by utilizing proper body mechanics, adhering to universal precautions, and maintaining environmental safety. Encourage and support community members as needed to participate in activities and events. Support community members' varying levels of participation in programming. Promote a community member co-driven process that highlights community member empowerment into their care and program service delivery. If bi-lingual, translation will be a regular expectation of the role.
Other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, abilities): Minimum one year of experience working with the elderly or frail population required. No certification required. A specific interest in serving LGBTQ seniors. Prior work in settings with LGBTQ seniors preferred. Ability to work independently and within a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Positive can-do attitude, conscientious, compassionate, attentive to detail. Basic conversational English skills. Fluency in second language a plus. Basic computer proficiency and comfort with utilizing technology in everyday work.
Ability to work one weekend day (Tuesday - Saturday). Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Must have and maintain (or obtain before start date) First Aid and CPR certification. Additional pre-employment requirements include an ability to clear a criminal background check and obtain required medical clearances, including a health screening and Tuberculosis (TB) test. WORKING CONDITIONS: Flexibility to work in multiple environments including home or center. PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to stoop, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear, and repeat motions of the wrist and hands.
Must have visual acuity. Must be able to lift/move weight that is within individual physical ability and use appropriate lifting devices or request assistance when needed.
