Acts as trusted advisor to client on network performance by backssing and adapting network configurations and connections, troubleshooting network problems. Additionally, this resource will support the client IT team by providing knowledge on LAN/WAN devices, Load-Balancers, ASA Firewalls and network security issues.
Will conduct network troubleshooting, network hardware configuration, capacity planning, and network performance tuning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Validates the client networking environment by reviewing system configuration; directing and/or undertaking system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing
best practice standards. Maximizes network performance by monitoring infrastructure performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; supporting upgrades; collaborating with 3rd party support resources and fellow IT engineers on network optimization.
Secures network system by communicating policies, defining access practices. Provides training and knowledge sharing for clients with varying levels of IT knowledge and competence Works closely with other departments/organizations and collaborates with other IT staff. Evaluates and provides expertise on all data circuits across the client enterprise; analyzes bandwidth requirements and provides proactive cost and capacity planning.
Develops and provides guidance on multi-year roadmap for network architecture including capacity, availability, and redundancy/diversity aspects.
Forecasts useful life and replacement planning for all core network infrastructure. Documents network problems and resolution for client reference. Communicates approaches for network user account management, permissions, email, anti-virus, anti-spam, intrusion detection. Oversees updates/patches for network devices, software, and network security. Requires a thorough knowledge of networking essentials. Strong analytical abilities and professional office experience needed. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a cross-functional IT service team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Has advanced networking (LAN/WAN/Wireless) knowledge. Can work independently on network design, implementation and troubleshooting both a LAN and WAN network environment. Knows how to use various tools to perform data captures in a LAN & WAN troubleshooting situation. Can perform advanced network maintenance tasks like designing and implementing IP addressing schemes, setting up DHCP servers, etc. Understands IP addressing, subnetting and VLAN design. Can design, install, configure and troubleshoot complex switch and router setups in a LAN and WAN (Wide Area Network) environment.
Can maintain network documentation, IP Schema, Naming Conventions and standards. Has advanced knowledge of VLAN design and creation. Can troubleshoot complex LAN switch and router issues (degradation, conflicts, etc). Can perform Device Management and Administration on switches, routers, firewalls. Creates and maintains methods and procedures (M&P's). Has advanced understanding of: network infrastructure VLANs Active Directory and LDAP VPN tunneling and remote access configurations IP Telephony Can implement overall network design and configuration independently as well as perform advanced troubleshooting on network issues.
Performs technical networking and makes critical network design and performance decisions, determines priority of tasks and can instruct/manage others as needed. Education and/or Experience 5+ years of exp. Implementing and managing large scale Cisco and non-Cisco networks. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or comparable years of experience Minimum: Current (or recently expired) Cisco CCNP or CCIE certification (Route/Switch or Data Center designation), or equivalent knowledge.
Cisco: LAN/WAN with an emphasis on Cisco Routers and Catalyst, Nexus Switches. Meraki: Experience in provisioning and installation of Meraki products via the Meraki portal, and understanding of Wireless infrastructure. Cisco: Thorough knowledge the Cisco Internetwork Operating System (IOS). Firewalls: Experience in implementation and support of CISCO ASA and/or Fire Power Firewalls. Palo Alto: Experience with Palo Alto a plus Experience linking Cisco devices to other non-Cisco networking equipment. IE- Lenovo-IBM, Dell, HP, Juniper, F5, Brocade, etc.
Experience linking network devices to VMWare and/or IBM Power Virtualized infrastructure. Networking Hardware/Protocols: Switches, Routers, Hubs & load-balancers. Protocols- TCP/IP, Layer3, Layer2, DNS, Qo S, BGP, VRRP, HSRP, Spanning-Tree, VLAG, OTV and MPLS. Candidate must be accustomed to pre-building test and POC configurations in a lab environment. Candidate must be skilled at efficiently opening support cases with the technology OEMs. Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements Physical environmental factors of this position include those found in typical business office environment or home office environment.
Requires use of general office equipment and personal computer equipment. Ability to travel. Various means of travel may be required, including auto and air travel.
