Specialized Experience: One year of specialized work experience with the Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved: 1)The protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; 2) Maintaining order and protecting life AND 3) Controlling access of vehicles, visitors and/or pedestrians into a facility or area.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Access Control Operations Incident Response Physical Security Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

Additional information Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation and must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals. Incumbent must meet the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program IAW AR 190-56.

Must maintain a high standard of conduct and ability to work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions, and a positive attitude toward his/her duties. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.

Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons IAW AR 190-56 " The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program. It is required the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.

Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency. Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton. It is required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility test (PAT) in accordance with the Army Regulation 190-56 " The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program" Failure to meet the physical agility test (PAT) after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.

Recruitment, Retention and Relocation incentives and Student loan repayment may be authorized. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
